Yangsook Choi grew up in Korea and moved to New York to study art. She was selected as one of the most prominent new children's book artists by Publishers Weekly, and has written and illustrated many books for young readers. Her books have been acclaimed as "Best of the Best" by the Chicago Public Library, included on the American Library Association Notable Book list, selected by PBS Reading Rainbow, and have received the International Reading Association's Children's Book Award.

She has spoken at Smithsonian Institution, Kappa Delta Pi, Dallas International Book Fair, TESOL Convention, Asian Festival of Children’s Content, Children's Museum of the Arts, Fordham University, Parsons School of Design, Barnes & Noble, and various institutions. Her clients include Random House, National Geographic, Farrar, Straus & Giroux, McGraw Hill Company,and Hachette Filipacchi Magazines.

She received an MFA in Illustration from the School of Visual Arts in New York City where she currently resides. When she is not creating, she is often off to the mountains, jungles, and desert to be inspired.
